We’ve been so lucky with wildlife so far – yesterday we think we saw a humpback whale! Some people aboard don’t believe this but we have photos and have contacted an Arctic whale expert (Trina) so I’m going all in and saying definite humpback sighting. We saw a magnificent tail fluke and some blows, and loads of the little dorsal fin. Incredible.
The first real station is tonight, and as we’re at 73°N already we will likely lose comms tomorrow. So just imagine me sitting in my fridge lab at 1°C with chilly fingers on my ice cold microscope, and I’m sure it’ll be accurate.
